I really enjoyed writing down my mini goals a few months ago.
It instilled a sense of responsibility and commitment, that actually resulted in me growing my nails (woo) & eventually painting more. Small things, but achievable ones, that have made me ever so slightly happier in the long run (you can read them here, if you fancy). So, after a bit of a terrible August, I'm ready to embrace September with open arms and a new set of goals in mind! I always see every new month as a fresh new start, so hopefully this will be a good one.
1. Make more videos. I really love editing videos. Like, possibly more than is considered normal. I find it so much fun, but I'm super awkward in-front of the camera. So, I don't have much content to edit - which is kind of a problem. This month I hope to put my awkwardness aside and dive head-first into the world of Youtube. Or at least maybe aim for one video a week!
2. Practise, practise, practise. I'm a bit of a perfectionist. I feel like I've lived most of my adult (and some of my younger) years so fearful of failure, that I don't even attempt to try, and if I do, I'm so worried about not doing well that I don't even enjoy it. But this really isn't how things work - practice makes perfect; so I'm going to dedicate September to trying at least one new, 'scary' thing (maybe an exercise class or eating alone in a busy place) & working harder at the things I want to be better at.
3. Wild thing. Speaking of practise, my yoga has been pretty much none existent for a while and I really miss it. Probably for fear of failure reasons, I'm nervous to get back into it, but one pose I really want to have the guts to try is 'wild thing' or 'camatkarasana'. It looks really quite fun and I love chest openers/back stretches but I've never had the cojones to try. So, hopefully by the end of September I will have given it a go!
4. Get out more. Working from home definitely has its perks, but I find myself inside a lot and I've realised it has a really negative effect on my mental state. I can go a bit stir-crazy and get particularly cranky when I've been at my computer all day long. So this weekend we signed up for Borrow My Doggy (exciting!) and I'm hoping having a four legged friend around a few days a week will help keep me company & get me out and about a lot more. Win, win really!
