Loving Lately : H&M Monochrome Basics

Although, (miraculously), the sun is still shining, there's definitely a chill in the air.

September is here & I am ready for the crisp, colourful leaves; hot chocolates & blankets on the sofa; wrapping up in scarves & gloves and those cool, yet bright days that I love so much. My wardrobe however, is not so ready and although I don't have much money to spend on clothes at the moment - I thought these basic pieces were just too good to pass up on.

What if I told you all three combined cost less than one Topshop jumper? Just short of £24 for all of them - I know - bargain! I purposely chose easy to mix & match, monochrome layering pieces, as it's so hard to judge the weather at the minute, but these are easy enough to throw on together, or take off, depending on that rare occasion when the sun shines.

I already spoke of my love of the black & white rose jumper (also H&M) and this plain white one is the same material, but a little more wearable with things like ripped jeans, as there isn't so much going on. I also really love how the v-neck white, slubby t-shirt has a dipped hem and covers my butt slightly, yet has a flattering fit & doesn't swamp me at the front.

The light grey cardigan is possibly my favourite of all as it really is just one of those things that will go with whatever you're wearing; adding a bit of warmth on a chilly day, but not too heavy for an elusive warm one! The sleeves are also a little bit longer than the usual length, which I think makes it extra cosy.

I think I'll get so much wear out of these and although they may be seen as slightly boring & monochrome, I'm happy that I consciously made a decision to buy things that I will really wear. As someone that shops very sporadically and buys whatever takes my fancy (magpie instinct) - this is a bit of a break through!

What do you think?
Where do you like to buy your basic, key pieces from?

  9. Lovely pieces! I tend to go to New Look for getting new pieces, if not there either Asda or Primark. I love a good bargain! I wish I had looked around a bit when getting my new cardigan as the H&M one looks very similar to my new look one at reduced price!

  10. Lady, you are so beautiful! On the subject of what you're actually posting about, monochrome basics are the best; normcore's in for a reason isn't it? Amazing that all your new pieces came in at under £25 - I should start shopping at H&M more! Usually I pick my key pieces up at Urban Outfitters and Topshop, although they're definitely not the best value brand on the high street!
