Products Of The Day #6 : Pretty & Simple Graduation Make-Up

Ah, graduation!

The day when all you can think is 'please don't fall, please don't fall, please don't fall' and 'woohoo, I did it!' all at the same time. I can't believe I graduated two years ago now! And yet I can remember every detail as if it was yesterday. From getting ready, to avoiding any food/drink prior to leaving (white dress problems) and finally walking across the stage and hearing cheers from my family.

When it came to make-up, I wanted to look like the best version of myself - not too over done but with a hint of glamour. I still look back now and feel happy with the choices I made, so I thought I would share them with any potential graduates! (how exciting!)

Base : I kept my base nice and natural, but with a bit more coverage than I would wear on an average day. NARS Sheerglow in Ceylan did the job perfectly as there's no SPF for dreaded 'ghost face' and it's stays put so nicely, that it was an obvious choice for me. I then added a sweeping of Bare Minerals Mineral Veil - I chose this as it gives a subtle matte finish, but still lets a good amount of 'glow' through. Which, as it was a Summer graduation came in very handy when things were getting a tad hot!

Eyes : I went very neutral with a brown smokey eye, with a thin flick of black liquid liner, accompanied by Shu Uemura 01 Natural False Lashes. I normally never wear false eyelashes throughout the day, however I do on a night-out or special events, so this wasn't completely alien to me. I thought they framed my eyes really nicely and gave a pretty, subtle effect. I wouldn't recommend adding lashes if it's not something you're used to - but these very natural ones were perfect for what I wanted!

Bronzer & Blush : I wasn't into contouring at the time, so I remember adding a little bit of Benefit's Hoola (although I'd probably opt for The Body Shop's Honey Bronzer now) and a great neutral blush - NARS Douceur. It just added a subtle hint of colour and naturally adds a nice shadow to the hollows of your cheeks, without being ott!

Lips : On my lips, I purposely went out and treated myself to a new lipstick, which just so happened to be Chanel (oops) shade 'Deauville.' It's a gorgeous rose-y, brown shade that looks very similar to my natural lip colour but adds a lovely amount of shine, without being shimmery. I still love this lipstick as an easy 'grab & go' type shade as it just compliments so many different looks and they're so comfortable and hydrating on the lips!

Overall, I think the key thing for any event like this is to stay true to yourself & don't over do it. If you're rocking a red lip daily - go for it! If you love a good cat-eye liner, then feel free. But if you're a natural kinda girl, don't go too far from your usual and you'll happily look back on your graduation picture with a smile - rather than a cringe!

(I'm actually wearing this 'look' to go restaurant tonight -  I just couldn't resist recreating it :))

Most of all - just enjoy it. It's a once in a lifetime event that you'll remember for the rest of your life. The best thing you can really put on your face is a huge smile! If you want to see how my graduation went, you can read all about it here

What did you wear for your graduation?
And have a great time if yours is up & coming!

  10. You looked so pretty at your graduation! Great tips - though my grad was only a few weeks ago it feels like months already, and I'd completely agree on trying to go for makeup that's not too far removed from what you'd be comfortable with on a daily basis. I went for a red lip and curled hair because of the jewellery and dress restrictions, but in hindsight I might have been a little bit more comfortable with my hair naturally straight, because I kept touching it during the ceremony to make sure it was still in place...
