I'm not one to jump on trends. Typically I wear things year in, year out and just about get by, until something literally falls apart at the seams. However, when I saw Birkenstock sandals doing the rounds I thought, 'thats a fugly looking shoe, they look really comfy!' and when I spotted these funky things on ASOS - 'Papillio by Birkenstock x Madrid Liberty (£49.95)' (conviniently in the sale now)... I knew I had to take that leap into the ugly/cool shoe deep-end.
Now, I have half size feet (six & a half, to be exact), so any shoes I ever buy generally give me problems - too tight or too small, never, ever perfect - until now! I didn't expect to fall quite so in love with these sandals; they're not something I'd ever normally buy, but I'm honestly very glad I did. Sure, they may not be everyones cup of tea, but I love the floral pattern that makes them a little different from every other pair of Birkenstocks/Birkalikes around at the moment.
And the fit - oh, it's like a hug for my feet. They definitely gave me a hefty blister or two the very first time I wore them, but after persevering and showing them who's boss, they have become my everyday Summer favourite. The leather has almost moulded to my feet and they slip on like a dream, plus they're sturdy enough for long, off-track walks and/or a fair few hours of shopping.
I don't normally dedicate an entire blog post to just one item, but I thought these definitely deserved some praise, because they haven't left my feet since I bought them!
Basically, it's love. And I may or may not have my eye on another pair already.
