Products of the Day #4 Modern Mandarin & Fanfare

Ooh, I forgot how lovely it is to get your mitts on some brand new MAC products.

Truth be told, I've bee so impressed with what the highstreet has to offer - I'd completely deserted any higher end offerings. That was until yesterday, when I had a gift voucher burning a hole in my purse and a desire to treat myself to two new products!

After a lot of swatching & a bit of help from the sale assistants, I settled for Modern Mandarin Blush and Fan Fare lipstick. I wanted wearable & neutral but with a hint of something extra (it was a lovely sunny day too, I think that influenced things!). I think that's definitely what these two are and I couldn't be happier with them.

Modern Mandarin (£18) wasn't my initial first choice, as it's a gorgeous bright red/orange and something I would normally assume would be too 'in your face' for my liking, but with a light hand it has such a pretty effect. I think this will look really lovely in Summer with a tan (fingers crossed for more sunshine!)

Fanfare (£15) was another one that I wouldn't have perhaps opted for straight away, but as I was swatching I kept going back & back to this, so I figured it must've been a sign (from the beauty Gods?). I don't actually own a 'nude' lipstick from MAC, shock horror! So I'm really happy to add this to the collection. It's a lovely blend of peach and pink tones and doesn't look too wishy-washy when on the lips, which I love. I can see that this will get a lot of use!
As for the rest of my face; my base was Nars Sheer Glow Shade Ceylan, as I wanted something that would have some staying power from day to night (we went out for a meal & everything was still in place, woo!). Followed by plenty of Bobbi Brown Corrector & Creamy Concealer under my eyes & on any blemishes.

I used my MAC Quad for Arena and Wedge on the eyes and Omega on my brows, then plenty of Benefits They're Real macara - I initially hated this stuff but, unfortunately for my bank balance, I actually really do love it *welp*. I then added a little Rimmel Scandaleyes Nude pencil in the waterline to open everything up!

To stick to the peachy, bronzed theme I went in with some Body Shop Honey Bronzer and Kevin Aucoin Sculpting Powder to contour my face! I love both of these products for the fact that they're so natural and look great on paler skin tones.

Et voila!

What are your current favourite day to day products?

  1. I like how modern mandarin looks on you, not too in your face at all. but I know what you mean, sometimes the colours may seem off or too vibrant but once applied they can look pretty natural and wearable / Claire xxx

    1. Thank you Claire! It definitely wasn't an obvious choice for me, but I'm really pleased as it's so different to anything else I own :)

    1. It's really lovely on pale skin - it's the only bronzer I've ever tried where I can swirl my brush in and put it straight on my face without worrying it will be too dark :) xx

  4. Such a pretty look! The mandarin blush actually really suits you and I didn't think the lipstick was going to be so sheer. It's a great nude tone. Might have to go and get involved! xx

    1. Thanks so much Katy :) I'll be honest, there is a little bit of lip balm under there, so it's probably a bit sheer-er than normal! Builds up to a lovely, fairly vibrant pink, but it's nice that it's so versatile! Xx
