Dear Blogger, It's Okay...

- that the backgrounds of your images aren't completely white
or taken on floral bedding, 'up-cycled' wooden furniture or a magazine
that you don't like Paris (it is possible, je suis desole!)
or know the difference between a macaron and a macaroon
that you upload 'fotd' posts, while sat with no makeup on
that you can't pull off a top-knot
or any fancy pinterest inspired hair style. at all.
that you live somewhere other than London
that you don't instagram every starbucks you ever have
or that sometimes, you just want to eat your meal without hovering your iPhone over it first
that you don't own a fedora, or any other type of hat
or a micheal korrs watch, a diptique candle or any muji storage
that you really don't get the whole one direction thing
or that you feel a bit old when new slang comes around; ie. 'shipping' (not the postal kind)
that you have slept with your makeup on, on more than one occasion
and you then remove it with a makeup wipe the following day
that you feel a bit disappointed when you write a totally kick-ass post… and no one likes it
- or that your most dedicated reader is your mum… *waves*
that you appear to be an online social butterfly, yet you talk to your pets more than actual humans

and last but not least, it's okay that your blog; your likes & dislikes; your quirks & passions, are different from someone else's. Our uniqueness is what makes us beautiful.

As much as I do love certain blogs that contain all of the above, (hell, I'm guilty of a few of them - this isn't a negative list!), I think it's important to remember that, for most of us, this is just a bit of fun. A hobby. An escape. It doesn't have to be so serious, or catty, or identical to the next. Life is far too short to be anyone other than yourself.

So, the next time you're contemplating buying fifty nail varnishes, that you can't afford, to fill up your muji storage, that you don't own yet - remember this list & repeat after me... 'it's okay!'

What else would you add to this list?
xo

  1. Brilliant list. I completely understand what you are getting at! The main this is to enjoy blogging, everything else is just a bonus.

Also "Its ok to not always eat beautiful food! - anyone else just eat normal stuff 99% of the time?

Hope you have a lovely weekend xx

  2. Haha love this, I'd add, 'it's ok that your room isn't always immaculately tidy or decorated and you have to find a tiny clean, clutter free corner to take your pictures'

  3. Absolutely! Mine has to be - it's ok when you can't find an absolutely stunning background to every single picture (erm that bit of a door frame is absolutely ok in shot, yeah?!)

  5. It's a brilliant list and I can totally relate with it. I would add - it's okay when you don't post an OOTD because you're wearing your sweatpants since you're staying home all day.

    1. Or when you wear your outfit twice in a row, because even though you posted about it - you probably didn't go out/see anyone in it, hah! :) x

  13. I love this. Although shipping (if it's the same thing I'm thinking of) is old! Like, over ten years old, old... though maybe only if you're a fandom junkie like me >.>

  16. I love this post! It's ok if you don't have a fabulous photographer friend & all your pics are selfies you took with a self timer & precariously balanced camera! Northerner who hates Starbucks here :p I love Paris but hated shopping there (unless museum gift shop hauls are in this season...)

  17. Haha this is brilliant! So true and so funny. My hair will never cooperate with the "effortless" hairstyles I can spend about 30 mins attempting and pretty much this whole list describes me... xx

  21. Hah! I came across this post on Bloglovin, and you've got a new subscriber out of me :D I'm 29 so feel practically middle-aged in beauty blogger terms. I totally understand what you're getting at -- sometimes certain cliques of bloggers end up covering the same content, writing in the same style, photographing with similar compositions and filters, and it's such a breath of fresh air when you see a bit of originality and personality come through.

  26. I love this post! It really made me smile, especially because my room is such a cluttered mish-mash of different styles and colours (the bloggers with the perfect white rooms, where is all your 'stuff'?!) and, even though it's supposed to be so easy, I have never pulled off a top-knot (I do not look cute and 'effortlessly-chic' - I look a mess).

Also, 'shipping'? I'm still trying to get my head around 'bae'.

  27. This is such a great post! As someone who's just started a blog, I feel the need to make everything perfect even when I know it's really not that important. Thanks for reminding me to stop worrying :)

  28. Hi!! I came across your post by someone sharing it in Bloglovin' and I'm so thankful I found it! It's just what I needed!

I just 'founded' my blog and youtube channel, which are post&video-less at the moment lol! And the reason is that I've been really obsessed and conscious about what other bloggers/youtubers do or have and I don't, or what readers expect that I couldn't get me to write my first post or anything!

I think I can finally say 'it's okay...' and start building my own blog and channel :)

Thanks again :) New subscriber here!

  31. Hahaha this was such a good post, Sam! I'm reading this and looking over to where my Michael Kors watch is sitting inside my Muji drawers, which are right next to my diptyque candle... :D I really do love them all though and probably wouldn't have learned about them if it weren't for blogs. Finding new loves through blogs is one of my favorite things, so I totally agree with you, it's important to remember the fun we have with blogging!

  34. Hehe I liked this post....so guilty of some of those! It is true that I think we so often compare ourselves to others, but the best written blogs are those really that are true to yourself, and your own interests! I buy endless make up, but actually rarely blog about is, as I'm not that interested in writing my own beauty reviews...hey ho, we're all different :)

  37. Yes completely agree with you on this one, I think we're all guilty of doing/trying to do at least two or three things off of this list. It's a bit frightening that I actually recognize and sort of can relate to the things on the list, it goes to show how much I HAVE been keeping up with things like these.
But my nail varnish hoarding habits started growing way before I started blogging (although that's what made me get MORE into it). Lovely blog you've got here.x

  38. I love this! As a new blogger I sometimes falter with my (little posted) blog. I don't have a niche, I don't have followers and I was afraid it was like I didn't blog like everyone else. At least now I know it's okay to just keep truckin' along in my own manner!
