Life Lately

Things that make me happy? These guys.

It has been a hot minute since I last blogged, but truth be told I haven't had the time or the 'want' to do so (shock, horror). I have barely been out of my pjs and/or stopped working (a good thing for our family business, I guess!) so taking snaps of myself or products has been out of the question. Oh, how I envy those who's full time job is blogging!

Anyway, I managed to get a few little pictures of my super cute tribe of animals today and as my life has mainly been with them lately, it seemed fitting to upload them here!
Herbert (the hedgehog) is now a 'dad', last time I wrote about him I think he was about to 'do the deed', so, yes, it worked! He is the father to two little hoglets; one chocolate coloured boy & one albino boy, there was a third one but unfortunately I found out today the runt of the litter; an albino girl, sadly passed away yesterday. It came as quite a shock, but we're going to meet 'Humphrey' the chocolate hoglet tonight for the first time, which I'm really excited about! His brother, the albino, went to a new home yesterday, in place of the little girl.
The ratties are as nuts as ever, and still continue to make me laugh, without fail, every day. It's a shame that people screw their noses up at them as a pet as they're the most interactive, intelligent, loving little animals I've ever come across. They literally bounce up and down when they see you & seem so happy to be with a human! Their tails are actually soft too, and they are constantly cleaning themselves - I think people instantly think 'wild rat' when they hear that word, but actually they couldn't be more wrong...

I could ramble some more, but I wont!

What have you been up to lately?

Valentines Berry Inspired Makeup

As I was playing around with make-up the other day I thought I'd do a small Valentines Day 'tutorial'.

I was in two minds whether or not to post this in the end as the photos came out all sorts of crazy thanks to multiple different lights, none of which came out looking very natural! I probably should've given you a "GIANT HEAD ALERT!" in the beginning too, but, what are you gonna do?

So I came up with this 'berry' toned, smokey eye & red lip combo based on the dress I plan on wearing tomorrow (flowery, navy and pinks/red). Now I know some people choose a 'one or the other' in regards to a dark eye, or a dark lip, but as neither of the eye or lip colour were 'too' dark, I opted for both!
I started with a base of Benefits Porefessional Primer; I'm trying to use this up as I'm not particularly keen, however it does make Nars foundations last longer. I then followed with the aforementioned foundation, Bobbi Brown Concealer, Urban Decay Primer Potion on the eyelids - essential product for me as my eyelids like to eat whatever I put on there - while I moved onto filling in my brows with Macs Omega eyeshadow.

As for eyeshadows, I opted to use my Naked Palette (cliché blogger sentence) and started with Sin all over the lid, followed by Toasted & Hustle in the crease and under the bottom lash line. I then added a flick of eyeliner using Macs basic liquid eyeliner  (only liquid eyeliner I've ever used) & their Kohl eyeliner pencil in Black on the waterline. Finishing off with two coats of Maybellines The Falsies Mascara.

For cheeks, I contoured my face using Benefits Hoola (very old) bronzer and then added Nars blush in Douceur.  I chose this mainly because it adds a very slight hint of colour & I didn't want to go too overboard as there's a lot of colour everywhere else.
On my lips I used Macs lipliner in Plum, to make the lipstick last longer (necessary, especially if you're going out to eat) and then added Creme In Your Coffee on top to finish off the look!

What do you think? Too much? It probably is, as I do tend to get a bit carried away with eyeshadows, I've never had so many to choose from! Anyway, this is something I would definitely re-create again & wear on a night out. I know some people don't like Valentines day, but I do love it, even when I was single or in Spain for it, I still find some way to celebrate with friends :)

Do you have any plans for tomorrow?

Valentines Treat : Boux Avenue

Ladies, I think I've found the one!

It's pretty, it's comfy, it's pretty AND it's comfy. I've found bra heaven in Boux Avenue
I don't think I'd normally blog about lingerie, but with Valentines Day just around the corner and the fact I've found a bra that ticks every box from fit to design, it's something I couldn't not share.
Classed as a DD+ I've always struggled to find the perfect bra. To be quite honest I didn't even think such a mythical creature existed! After I was wrestling around with an old, uncomfortable La Senza piece I decided enough was enough and went browsing online for bras for the... um... curvier lady. There are definitely a lot of options out there, (Curvy Kate, Bravissimo, Fig Leaves, etc), but something about Boux Avenue appealed to me and with a quick google of reviews it seemed like the brand to try.

Boux Avenue start at an A cup and go up to H, so there seems to be something for everybody. After having a good route around, I opted for the Sienna Balconette Bra, which was in the SALE at a ridiculously cheap £10. I also added the Chloe Balconette Bra for good measure along with some underwear & by the time I'd finished I had free delivery for spending over £50 (oops).
When the parcel arrived (gift wrapped in a cute little box, including pink wrapping paper & rose petals!) and I'd tried the bras on, it was like love at first cup. Comfortable, cute, well priced, good support... I was almost annoyed with myself I hadn't treated myself to a decent bolder holder in such a long time!

My favourite of the two has got to be the Sienna bra, so much so I'm almost tempted to buy another one while they're in the sale. It is just so unbelievably comfortable and pretty to boot... *sigh* The Chloe bra is definitely a winner too, but I'm a sucker for comfy things, and that is definitely the first of the two.
This isn't even a sponsored post, haha! I just thought a good bra should be shared, because I wish I'd found this sooner. And, if there's a better excuse to treat yourself to something for Valentines day, I've never seen it.

Have you tried Boux Avenue? What's your favourite brand?

A Few Of My Favourite Things

At the end of January, I was hoping to do a 'favourites' post.

By the time it got to February the 9th, I figured I'd missed that slot and decided to do a general post of a couple of things (not necessarily make-up) I've enjoy using/reading/smelling this past month! Also, as I'm on a spending ban, 'favourites' post become a bit difficult as my collection of pretty things isn't as varied & vast as I think some others might be.

The main thing I was absolutely hooked on in January were The Hunger Games books. Now, I realise I'm a little bit behind with this whole series, but... I can fully say I truly love them & completely understand the hype. I'm not a particularly quick reader and I haven't read a set of books since the Harry Potters way back when, so I think that the fact I've just finished the third in the trilogy today, in two weeks of starting them - says a lot. They're so addictive, so well written... I just couldn't put them down. I'd definitely recommend reading them to anyone that was a bit unsure! I can't wait until the second & third films are released.

As for skincare I've been getting to grips with my REN Glycolactic Radiance Renewal Face Mask. This is my first ever REN product, (which I received for Christmas from my mum), and I've got to say I'm impressed. I wasn't impressed at the beginning, but as time goes on, I'm understanding why it's so popular and raved about quite so much.

When I first used this mask, I didn't like the tingling, it was quite intense and I wasn't prepared. I had a blemish that almost seemed to sting for a few seconds once applied and then the whole thing eased off. After taking it off I couldn't quite put my finger on what it had done to my skin, but it felt soft & very clean so I decided to stick with it.

Fast forward a month or so and I can definitely see the difference I struggled to see in the beginning. I've never looked at my skin and thought 'this actually looks nice & healthy' but recently I've found that I have a nice glow, less oil, less scarring from old blemishes, a more even complexion and generally less spots overall.

I will definitely buy this again, and probably more of RENs skincare products, I suspect!

Being the 'newb' to beauty blogging as I was, I hadn't heard of the infamous Urban Decay Naked Palette and just how great it was until I saw it repeatedly blogged about, used in tutorials, etc. So when it came to Christmas I asked for this as one of my gifts because 1. I love neutral eyeshadows 2. I'd had UD palettes in the past and loved their pigmentation and 3. I'll admit, I gave in to the hype. But, I'm very, very glad I did!

To jump on the band wagon - yes, it is absolutely wonderful. The three shades I've used the most are Sidecar, Half Baked & Smog, and are probably my favourite in the whole palette.

I haven't 'reviewed' this as quite frankly, they have been done to death (no offence) and with numerous newer UD palettes being released it just seemed a tad unnecessary  If you want to see some swatches & what not, this is a great review for that :) link!

As for eye makeup, I've been toning down the black eyeliner and opting for brown instead. Mac Eye Pencil in Coffee is perfect for this. It isn't as soft a formulation as their Kohl eyeliners, but it is great for the waterline & even on the top. It is such a pretty shade of brown & does a nice job of emphasising blue eyes!
On my lips I've been trying out a very bold colour using Maybelline Colour Sensation Lipstick in Pleasure Me Red. It's the colour I wore in my Hershesons post and as I was asked a few times about what lipstick it was I thought I'd give it a mention! For a highstreet brand I'm very impressed with the lovely pigmentation, staying power & consistency  It has a satin finish (not matte, not glossy) and doesn't dry your lips out. The colour is one of the most perfect red shades I've ever used & I will definitely be looking into buying more from this range!

I don't think the Nuxe Reve de Miel needs much of an introduction, but having bought this lip balm in August it has lasted a surprisingly long time & there isn't a day that goes by that I don't use it. I know some people love or hate this, but I'm 100% on the 'love' side. It just works wonders on very dry lips, without the need to constantly re-apply. It has been a God send during winter & I can see this being a staple product for a long time.

I rarely change my perfume (I own three in total) but as soon as I gave Gucci Guilty a test spray I knew I loved it. It's a very bold, distinct perfume, almost one that would suit nights out/winter as opposed to light summer fragrances. The main scents I get from it are mandarin, pink pepper and peach. It's quite unusual, floral-y overall, but I really do like it! The packaging is very sleek & pretty, not too over the top, which I like. I can definitely see me repurchasing this when it runs out!

And that's it. Seven products I have loved & used over and over again this past month.

What are your favourite things?
